Church History

Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe, North Carolina, has a long-standing history rooted in faith, perseverance, and community service. The church was founded in 1904 in Union County, establishing itself as a place of worship and spiritual growth for generations of believers.

Although detailed records of its earliest years are limited in publicly available sources, the church has remained a consistent presence in the Monroe community for over a century.

Located at 501 P.E. Bazemore Drive, it has served as a gathering place for worship, fellowship, and outreach activities, reflecting the enduring traditions of the Missionary Baptist faith.

Throughout its history, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church has emphasized Christian teaching, regular worship services, and spiritual development. The congregation has traditionally included a strong base of committed members, particularly adults and seniors, while continuing efforts to engage younger generations and expand its ministry.

Like many historic Baptist churches in the region, Friendship has navigated changes in leadership, community needs, and ministry focus over time. Its mission has remained centered on guiding individuals into a closer relationship with God, fostering a sense of belonging, and encouraging active participation in church life.

He has three siblings: Mrs. Jackie Lewis-Gorham, Ms. Patricia Lauren Ndombe, and Mr. Mosengo Michael Ndombe. He is married to Mrs. Alexis Ndombe of Asheville, NC.

Rev. Ndombe earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later pursued his calling in ministry, obtaining a Master of Divinity from Shaw University Divinity School.

Before entering full-time ministry, Rev. Ndombe worked as a teacher in the Wake County Public Schools System, where he was dedicated to shaping young minds. At his home church, Oak City Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC, Rev. Ndombe faithfully served in various capacities, including Usher, Sunday School Assistant Superintendent, Young Adult Ministry Vice-Chair, and Youth Minister. His commitment to the gospel and leadership in ministry prepared him for his current role as Pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe, NC, where he has served since October 2024.

Beyond his pastoral duties, Rev. Ndombe enjoys traveling, playing video games, and engaging in deep biblical study for both personal devotion and sermon preparation. His favorite scripture is John 3:14-15:

"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life."

Rev. Ndombe is committed to preaching and teaching the Word of God, encouraging believers to grow in their faith, and serving the community with love and compassion.

What We Believe

The Articles of Faith teach that the Bible is God’s true Word, and that there is one God who exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Humans were created good but fell into sin, becoming separated from God. However, salvation is provided through Jesus Christ, who saves by grace through His death and resurrection, and those who believe are justified, forgiven, and made right with God. This salvation is freely offered to everyone and brings new spiritual life (regeneration). To be saved, people must repent of sin and have faith in Christ, as part of God’s plan of grace. After salvation, believers grow in holiness (sanctification) and continue faithfully (perseverance). God’s law shows sin, while the gospel brings salvation, and believers gather together as a church. They practice baptism and the Lord’s Supper, set aside time for worship, and are taught to obey civil authority. In the end, there is a distinction between the righteous and the wicked, and all people will face a future where there is either heaven or hell.
